sorry for posting here but i have tried everything and don't know what else to use..
my daughter has used a permanent majic marker to color a pic on a piece of paper, well it went thru onto our oak dining room table... does anybody know what i can use to take it off ??
i have tried almost everything (household cleaners) and i can't get.. was thinking about fingernail polish remover but afraid it might dis-color the oak.. not that its not discolored right now...
thank you
wendy
I don't know what will remove it but do not use nail polish remover. It will strip the wood.

thanks PCB.. thats what i was thinking, that it would strip or discolor it somehow...
hmmmm what to do ???
Hand-sanitizer! :) That should do the trick. That's what us artists use to remove permanent ink / marker. It works to remove it from skin, too.
If the oak is oiled you can put a cottonball with any food oil on the spot and it will bleed the ink out.
You need to leave it on the ink for hours and perhaps change the cotton and add more oil but it usually works on my oiled wood furniture.
I also use alcohol ( vodka ) on a q-tip and oil the wood after.
If you are careful that works just fine.
Good luck !

Also, did you try the toothpaste as suggested in the first link that PCB posted? Around our house, toothpaste is the the 'cure all.' I have a teenager and he has perfect skin because if he starts to get a pimple, he dabs a little toothpaste on in before going to bed and then it disappears. I apply it to the many burns I get from being a clumsy cook, too. Thanks for the new use, PCB!

wow thanks guys.. i just seen the link.. thanks PCB...I will try it ALL !!!
Toothpaste on oiled wood is not a good idea as it contains chemicals that will bleach the part you rub it on to.
Works fine with really light wood with small fibers but not on dark woods and woods with deep pores as oak.
Toothpaste on high gloss sufaces too is a risky project as it contains fine grains. It will "sand down" and make non-shiny spots.
But great on pimples ! :) and all other non-shiny non absorbant surfaces.
Hairspray will get ink off of fabrics very nicely, but it may take the finish off of the wood.
