In nine informative lessons, this course explains everything you need to know about getting started with Atkins. You'll learn about the four phases of Atkins, explore the health and energy benefits of eating the Atkins way and get practical tips and guidelines for successful weight loss and lifetime weight maintenance.
The Atkins Nutritional Approach (ANA) is a four-phase eating plan customized to your needs. While there's lots of science to back it up (more on that later) the Atkins principles and phases are not complicated to understand or follow.
This lesson outlines the health crises facing us today and shows the role of the standard American diet in epidemic levels of obesity, hypertension, heart disease and diabetes. You'll understand how the ANA addresses these issues and can help you prevent and/or control health problems.
One of the most important things to remember about Atkins is that it's a way of life, not a diet. Depending on age, gender, lifestyle and specific health concerns, you may be more interested in some benefits than others. This lesson covers the short-term and long-term benefits of the ANA.
Despite a large body of established and emerging research, the ANA has been misunderstood and misrepresented at times. This lesson corrects the top misconceptions about the ANA. We'll conclude with a list of frequently asked questions about Atkins.
After a brief refresher on the entire program, we'll get into the details about the first phase: Induction. This lesson will focus on what you'll most need to know if you're starting out on the Atkins Nutritional Approach.
This lesson offers an overview of Phase 2 and addresses common questions about Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL). We'll also cover dealing with plateaus, which can happen at any stage.
In Pre-Maintenance, you'll keep adding more carbohydrates until you learn how many Net Carbs you can eat without losing or gaining weight: your Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE). This lesson covers strategies for moving into the third phase of the ANA.
Once you reach Lifetime Maintenance, you'll have the knowledge and good health habits you need to stay healthy for life. This lesson offers strategies for moving into the fourth and final Atkins phase.
This lesson answers some of the most frequently asked questions about Atkins. If you don't find the answer you seek, please post your question on the discussion forum.
I am trying to read the session but it says up in the screen "This session is currently full." Can I press a button somewhere to read the session?
Atkins is the only diet I have ever been on and not been hungry. I started in July and reached my goal in Oct. It is a way of life and now I can cheat once a week and not gain any weight back. As long as I live the lifestyle, you can treat yourself every now and then. Love the baking mix and pasta helpers.
Great introduction to Atkins, explained everything very clearly but needed more time to complete the last two lessons before it expired. Otherwise, I would have given it five stars.
I just finished my first lesson. I am enjoying reading all about Atkins and I think this will help me stay focused.
I have enjoyed the online courses and look forward to starting the new lifestyle!
I was very pleased with the Lessons. Even though I had done this program before...I forgot a lot of that pertinent information. Thank you for this program, and look forward to reaching my goal.
So glad I enrolled in the course; although I had read the books, having the main points bulleted and recapped really helps me understand the Atkins Nutritional Approach.
In the past, I was one of those people who was going through the motions of "doing Atkins", thinking I could modify the plan to suit my wants and of course, long-term successful weight loss was elusive.
I did manage to lose 40 lbs and kept it off, but stalled for 2+ months.
I'm back...I want to learn how to be healthy and how to live with Atkins; I am actively working at conditioning my body through 30 minutes of daily exercise plus 3 45-minute weight training sessions. I have returned to the Induction Phase and in 1 week's time I have lost 7 lbs. I have 38 lbs to lose and I know the Atkins Approach will need to be a part of my life.
I am pre-diabetic - extremely insulin resistant and on medication. My doctor is an avid advocate of the Atkins Approach.
Not until I read this first lesson, did I really understand how OWL works.
Thank you for the lesson.
